Landfill-Public Works Labourer_PT_Job Description_2015-05-31 Municipality of the District of Chester Position Description Landfill/Public Works Labourer Position Title: Landfill/Public Works Labourer Salary Band: Labourer Reports to: Solid Waste Supervisor/Assistant Municipal Engineer Status: Part Time Classification: Non-Administrative Location: Kaizer Meadow Environmental Management Centre/Municipality of the District of Chester Established: May 31, 2015 Hours: Summer Hours: 8 A.M to 4 P.M., Monday to Friday Winter Hours: 7:00 A.M. to 3:00 P.M., Monday to Friday SCOPE OF WORK: The Labourer will assist with maintaining various municipal assets and properties. QUALIFICATIONS: Combinations of education, training and experience, which provides the following knowledge, abilities and skills:  Grade 12, or GED equivalent,  A valid Class 5 Driver’s License or higher,  Ability to perform physical labour for extended periods of time under varying weather conditions,  Must be capable of lifting items safely up to 25 kg. A qualified medical doctor’s certificate relating to the candidate’s physical condition may be required prior to awarding the position,  Must be a self-starter and be capable of working independently,  Knowledge of occupational hazards involved and precautions necessary for the safe completion of required tasks,  WHIMS, First Aid, Fall Arrest and Confined Space certification or possess the ability to obtain. Page 1 of 2 DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The following is a general outline of the duties and responsibilities associated with this position. It is also not intended to limit the employer’s right to assign other duties.  Light-duty maintenance tasks may include Painting, minor carpentry repairs and plumbing & heating system checks, o Storage of maintenance and office supplies, o Walk shoveling and salting, o Sweep and clean all walkways, o Sweep and clean all parking lots, o Lawn mowing, o Landscaping, ensuring lawns, shrubs, trees, flower beds, etc. are maintained, o Litter pick up at Kaizer Meadow, o Notify Supervisor of any maintenance problems promptly. o  Maintaining municipal trails, this may include cutting and removing trees and brush, as well as minor surface repairs;  Maintaining other municipal properties and assets such as roadways, parks, playgrounds, sidewalks and wharves etc.  Attending and participating in monthly tool-box meetings as requested.  Perform any of the above duties outside of normal working hours.
