Tourism Lead_Job Description_Community Development_2018-11-28 MUNICIPALITY OF THE DISTRICT OF CHESTER POSITION DESCRIPTION Position Title: Tourism Lead Salary Band: Individual Contributor Department: Community Development Reports to: Economic Development Officer Status: Full-Time, Contract (from December 2018 to March 2020 – possible extension to permanent) Location: Flexible, will require access to high quality internet. Will require coming into the municipal offices (186 Central Street, Chester) for regular meetings. Also requires frequent travel throughout the municipality, and possibly throughout Nova Scotia, during summer season. Hours: 35 hours / week Weekend and evening work will be required. Updated: November 2018 SCOPE The Tourism Lead is accountable to the Economic Development Officer for implementing the actions associated with the Tourism Chester program. This position will ensure the MODC is strategically investing time and resources in providing tourism information services and coordinating product development initiatives that will have a greater impact on tourism growth and a wider reach by including all communities of the Municipality where tourism is a critical economic generator. OBLIGATIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES UNDER LEGISLATION 1. TOURISM LEAD - Job Description (continued) 2 QUALIFICATIONS 1. Post-Secondary education in Tourism, Business, Hospitality or equivalent. 2. Must be computer literate; strong knowledge of digital media marketing and website management. 3. Excellent creative, strategic and problem-solving aptitude with the ability to work well independently or as a member of a team or group. 4. Proficient in verbal and written communication with an acute attention to detail. 5. Experience with Nova Scotia’s tourism industry and tourism destinations. 6. Equivalencies will be considered. SUMMARY OF FUNCTIONS The following is a general outline of the duties and responsibilities of the Tourism Lead. The list is not intended to be all-inclusive or to limit the Economic Development Officer from assigning other duties as may be required. Principle Duties and Responsibilities: Managing MODC Online Tourism Presence 1. Overall management of tourismchester.ca website and Tourism Chester social media accounts (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram): Maintain digital media and extend our tourism season by providing exceptional customer service responding to inquiries received via website/social media during peak season, shoulder seasons and winter season. 2. #LOVEwhereyoulive campaign management 3. Share extensive travel knowledge and trip planning advice about attractions, destinations and experiences that is customized to each visitor. This position would see many visitors counselled on MODC and Nova Scotia tourism products, which will ultimately have a direct impact on MODC’s tourism industry. 4. Daily research of tourism products, destinations, MODC and provincial festivals and events information, and data collection is essential. 5. Collaborate with Tourism NS and the South Shore Tourism Cooperative to ensure the MODC is prominent and well represented in their online tourist attraction campaigns and that the MODC is aware of any available funding programs. 6. Management of the Virtual Ambassador which serves to support Tourism Ambassador partners Ambassador Partnership Program 1. Develop and maintain strong collaborative relationships with the identified ‘Tourism Ambassadors’ and ensure they are provided with appropriate marketing materials and training. 2. Ensure Tourism Chester brochure racks are regularly filled and checked for stock. Request and collect marketing collateral from provincial distribution centre and local businesses. 3. Recruit new ambassadors when required. 4. Ambassador Map updates, printing and distribution 5. Develop and implement familiarization (FAM) tour for ambassadors TOURISM LEAD - Job Description (continued) 3 MODC Mobile Kiosk Deployment and Management 1. Ensure we are providing face-to-face interaction with visitors during peak season (June, July and August). 2. Strategically schedule the mobile tourism information kiosk in peak traffic areas, community events and festivals/events outside the municipality. 3. Train, supervise and schedule summer ambassador position. 4. Provide representation at the kiosk when summer ambassador is not available. 5. Assist summer ambassador with setup and takedown at events during peak season 6. Management of promotional vendor program Research and Data Collection 1. Complete administrative tasks such as collecting and entering visitor statistics and writing reports. 2. Run and provide analysis of Tourism Chester website analytics 3. Liaise with and provide reporting to Tourism Nova Scotia as required on visitor statistics. Experience Development 1. Maintaining a holistic view of our municipality; develop opportunities around experience package development and festivals/events development. 2. Knowledge of Tourism Nova Scotia’s programs and marketing opportunities, priority markets and visitor profiles they want to attract. 3. Lead the collaboration and communication with industry, business development organizations, SSTC and Tourism Nova Scotia to develop experiences that motivate travel and improve MODC’s competitiveness as a tourism destination. Additional Promotion: 1. Media relations (includes press releases, organizing remote tapings, etc.) 2. Tourism advertising execution 3. Photograph municipal tourism assets for use on tourismchester.ca and social media where needed 4. Saltscapes Expo coordination and management 5. Board member on the South Shore Tourism Cooperative: provide content for the South Shore Guide and ensuring our municipality is present in their initiatives: i.e. Christmas Crawl campaign and South Shore Lobster Crawl. OTHER REQUIREMENTS 1. Possess a valid class 5 Nova Scotia driver’s license with no restrictions. 2. Must have own vehicle. 3.
